Saturday PM · Intermediate · AQOutdoor
The aim of this program is for paddlers to start learning to play on the river using different features and get more comfortable paddling a half-slice. Skills we can work on include dynamic moving water skills with style and finesse (eddy turns, s-turns, combination moves, etc.), surfing, stern squirts, and more. This is a dynamic course with a huge scope for skill development, content will be varied and focused on each participant.
Participants should be able to paddle self-directed on Class II+, with some experience in Class III (including previous experience on the Upper Kananaskis River) and have a reasonably reliable roll in Class II+ whitewater.
This Course is provided by our title sponsor AQ Outdoors. Their support makes the festival possible. As a local, family-owned paddlesports shop and kayak school based in Calgary, AQ Outdoors is dedicated to supporting the paddling community through accessible education and top-quality gear. They’re passionate about fostering a strong, connected community where paddlers can learn, grow, and thrive. Learn more about AQ at @aqoutdoors or visit aqoutdoors.com
