Survivor: The fastest way to wakeup Sunday morning.

Updated: Jul 11

Sunday morning at KanFest starts with the absurd, and cold-blooded tradition: Survivor

Just before the dam controller river flow turn on, a group of brave (and sleep deprived) paddlers line up, in the river, just above Green Tongue and await the morning flood. The Kanaskis rapidly fills, be the last person standing. That’s it. No boats, no paddles, just you, your footing, and your will to survive the current.

Participants are required to wear a PFD, helmet, booties/shoes, and a bib. Minimal attire is strongly encouraged, if you show up in a drysuit, you will be publicly shamed!

There are no winners, just one survivor. And plenty of laughs.

Tips:

  • Bring a towel, blanket, or something warm for when you inevitably get swept.

  • Get there early to secure a good spot

  • Want to watch? Even better. Grab a coffee and enjoy the show.

  • Got a megaphone voice and a loud personality? We always need an announcer to get everyone fired up.
